Grass SOS....what did I do wrong?!? My lawn be a beautiful low green and full lawn when I...
My lawn be a beautiful low green and full lawn when I bought my house. Last spring and summer I watered the prairie and mowed; but it became barren and shocking. With spring approaching I would like to carry and try and fix it so it looks nice this year. I live in Washington State and it rain here a lot and near are a ton of trees. Because of where I live my grass has become mostly moss and the parts that are within the shade of the trees is bare dirt. I am TERRIBLE beside plants and grass...I could kill a plastic house plant, I am THAT tallented! ;) Can anyone pass me some advice on how to brand name my lawn look nice again. Please be especially detailed as I have no clue how to work near plants or a lawn. Thank you so much!
Fertilizing could be an answer but theres a margin you hold to hit because if you over fertilize youll kill it anyway. Im not sure roughly speaking WA but I know some turfgrass cant handle shade. There are specific variety for shade so that might be something to look into. As for around the trees, you dont want turfgrass growing ring up to the trunk. Its bad for the tree. And lots of trees results contained by no grass- when have you see a grassy forest? I would say (depending on the amount of trees) bring rid of the grass and focus on a different groundcover.... or fertilize.
The trees are sap the strength from the soil and shading the grass from the sun. The shade and moisture from the rain are letting lone mosses grow. You will need to reseed near an appropriate grass for your area and one that can withstand these adverse conditions. You can do some research at your local nursery. They're usually really righteous helping because they stand to make a public sale.
