Answers:    Short grass help alot. The ticks breed and grow in the field mouse population. By doing things that make smaller, or push away from the house, the field mouse population you will reduce the ticks. When I lived on a plough they recommended putting Deet soaked cotton balls around the edges of the yard. The mice use them to build their nest and the Deet discourages the ticks. Keep your patio cut at least 30 yards away from the house surrounded by all directions if possible.
They live surrounded by taller grass generally (18" or so) and shrubs, but they can and will fall sour deer and raccoons crossing the grass. You can apply insect-repellents to reduce their desire to stay in the grass even further - or at lowest be sure to check your legs when you get back inside. I recommend you buy a full length mirror and next you can change when you come in and shut in a quick look to be sure you catch them when they are newly on the leg and before they get high and anchor in. If your grass is only 2", you can also wear a soaring, slick high-top boot which makes it almost impossible to get onto you from the courtyard. there so small they can live in ay grass. they dont hurt our anything and they rarley ever waste animals bigger than 5 pounds so you have nothing to verbs about.
