I am getting a house built and I am planning to get a sprinkler system installed. I heard from a friend that its better to catch a second water meter specifically for the sprinkler system. Do I really need this and why is it beneficial? How much money can I reclaim?
Second, do I tell my builder to install a second water meter or the company to be exact installing the sprinkler system?
(I live in Columbus, Ohio)
Wouldn't make any sense to own two meters. best time to run your sprinklers, late at night or a moment ago before daylight. as there is a minimum charge for respectively meter you would wind up paying two charges all winter long (not good but spending more). the sprinklers won't drop your pressure enough to bother you, especially if you use a timer on the system,so it don't run when you shower.
Are you thinking of a fire sprinkler system? If so, you should speak near both your water purveyor and the fire department. They are the only ones who can present you specific advice.
Often the fire sprinkler system dictates a larger service than the domestic use does. However, in most jurisdiction you can use a combined service to the house, and split off for the sprinkler system there.
Be prepared to reimburse an increased charge for the larger meter, unless your water purveyor is better than most. It is ironic that if you install a fire sprinkler system, you lessen the use for large quantity of water to put out a fire. Yet the water companies soar on the larger meter to rake in a few extra bucks.
Answers: If this is a new build when you obtain the water meter installed have them put 2 within and have them designate the one that will go to the sprinkler system. The good thing to this is if you are going to have to pay for adjectives the sewer that is recorded buy the meter that one and only goes to your house. The other one will be designated for landscape individual and no sewer charge on your bill. If you look at your current water bill the sewer charge is almost as much as the water usage. So on a investigational build if you are going to put in a sprinkler system or pool where you are going to use greatly of water yes it will be to your advantage.
