Anyone else use their compost bin the way I do?

I only just put old vegetable peelings and grass cuttings + clean cardboard egg boxes in the bin and it sort of shrinks down and "vanishes" I dont catch any compost from the bin

Answers:    I rarely use compost from the bin. I use it primarily as a bearing to alleviate organic dribble away. Mine is a 4'X4' by 3' tall chicken rope enclosure and have no readily accessible tray on the bottom. In the summertime (Texas) the pile can cook down to half volume within a month.
