Does anyone have any experience beside growing a climbing hydrangea in So. Cal? Any hints on where on earth and how?
Answers:    I am in Zone 9, SoCal and hold a few in my patio. Mine likes to be out of the direct sun, especially contained by the summer months when we get triple digit temperature. I relocated one that was struggling contained by direct sun to shaded indirect sun and it took off. Mine did not bloom for the first two season. I prune mine regularly at this time of year to control growth and to direct it where I want it to expand. It like moist, well drained soil, principally in the summer and smaller number water & more dry soil from this time of year until overdue April and early May. I fertilize it within the spring and mine like acerbic. I have DG soil so I also append a healthy dose of compost and mulch both within autumn and spring. Deadheading it also nets you more blooms and the blossoms can be dried for crafts simply by limp them upside down or using kitty litter.
Hydrangea grows in the shade. They're exceptionally common surrounded by the San Francisco bay nouns where the weather is cool and the atmosphere is moist.
