I had a Sassafras in my pasture. i cut it down and dug out the stump, but now little trees keep popping up surrounded by my grass. It is like a weed. How can I get rid of them?
Pour with boiling hose down for several times ,on that area but do not dig and try to chomp through that stuff ,after boiled. follow the root system which is beneath your entire yard AND remove it.
Those are your two choices :-) If I was you I'd take the former. I deliberate, as the latter answer suggests, you have suckers coming up from the roots. But without leaves roots cannot nurture and will eventually run out of stored energy. It may take a while (how long depends on how much sugar is stored) but it will begin. Probably seeds from before you cut it down. Two choices, hold them mowed, eventually they will give up. Or any broad leaf herbicide close to 2-4D if your in a hurry RScott
