My experience is that ferns tend to thrive indoors with nothing more than ambient frothy. In fact, the ones I've placed near window don't fare so well. I've found that misting them daily help. I also like to use a food called Oxygen Plus in the order of once a month. Otherwise, I water twice a week. If you're a smoker, don't bother trying to grow a fern indoors... they really don't like cigarette smoke. Oh, and cats give the impression of being to like chewing on ferns.

I'm pretty sure a solar lamp would wreak a fern to yellow and wither...
