Can the planting of trees/shrubs protect a home in severe weather. I'm from Sydney - so I would appreciate some info from culture who live in tornado/cyclone areas.
Answers:    Shrubs can shield your home from wind, cold temperatures and racket but they are no match for tornadoes and hurricanes.
It would depend on the extent of the plant life. If you consider that most of the damage from a hurricane/cyclone is done by the storm surge after a swamp, grassland, forest or other natural barrage between your home/city and the ocean will indeed lessen the impact of the surge and give support to to dissipate the energy of the marine being pushed on estate. The planting of shrubs and trees just on your own property will own virtually no effect.
