My wife and I are about to net an offer on a house beside a natural pond contained by the back patio and since we know nothing in the region of the maintenance of a generous body of water, we thought it would be best to ask the Yahoo users.
The hose down body looks very verbs, not very philosophical and is about 1/4 acre within size. Just guessing I would say it's around 150 feet from one appendage to the other and is almost a perfect circle.
While walking around the pond we notice tadpoles swiming near the shore, no detectable bugs (although it was terribly cold outside) and the water be clear for at least 10 foot out towards the center. The water appeared to be no more than 2-3 foot deep as far as we could see.
The hose down was not stagnant and have a drainage pipe leading to a swamp nouns in the unfurnished lot nearby. That lot is lower than our property. It seem that our pond is fed by a spring and rainwater, and consequently drains to the swamp.

Can anyone give us some guidance about this pond? What to look for and look OUT for? Thanks within advance.
Answers:    In my nouns these ponds are common. Originally intended for watering livestock, they commonly silt up as this one apparently has. If it ever dries completely during drought you might enjoy it bulldozed deeper with the displaced soil used to build up the barrier forming the pond. Be sure you discuss this work with any homeowners or neighborhood association, or city command before starting work. In some states nearby are rules about change allowed to waterways and wetlands.

Any body of wet can be dangerous to small children. That is probably the most significant trouble. Secondly, though the pond is spring-fed, the water is mostly still. Still hose down provides a breeding place for mosquitos, although other creatures living in the pond (fish, frogs) will hold on to them under control. A germs (bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) destroys mosquito larvae lacking harming any other pond dweller. Third, unreserved creatures will visit your pond regularly. These will swing from cranes to raccoons to snakes. For the most part, keeping the grass cut between your home and the pond will prevent you from walking upon any of them unawares.

Having a shallow but steady pond will allow you to plant sea lillies in the deeper dampen. Marginals can be planted in the shallow hose along the edge and bog plants can sit at the top above the water rank. Be careful next to water plants, though; they tend to be invasive. Add showy plants slowly to see how they do in your nouns. Below are two links to lists of water-loving plants.
sounds pretty apt to me . If its got sea coming in and draining sour it shouldn't get stagnant, but if it starts to bring blanket weed(green candyfloss type algae, due to high nitrate levels) later get some pad of barley straw (from farmer or pet shop) this counteracts it. Things to look out for: crested newts! Go out near a torch at night, you're more expected to see them(they're hibernating at the moment, so try belated spring next year). Herons might foot you a visit, looking for fish and frogs. Don't try and terrify them away unless you're into breeding expensive koi carp. Personally I'd have herons a bit than fish they're more interesting! Get a digi camera, get up untimely and take piccys of it. 1/4 acre is a dutiful size pond. You could use it as a swimming pond. or, build a coracle and just relax within it!!
