I want to buy a tree. I want a small tree to buy and plant somewhere that would last for oodles years like 80 (<--example)...
Can anyone facilitate me with choosing which tree would be appropriate for such purpose, and where on earth can it be bought from....(somehwere in Los Angeles)

Answers: You want to plant a tree explicitly small NOW? (And therefore unforced to plant?) Or you want to plant a tree that will STAY small?
If it's the second, you may have a problem - mostly, small trees only live 25-50 years, depending on the species. To catch one that lives 80 years or more, you need to shift with the big trees. You can still grasp small young one that are undemanding to plant, though.
I'm not sure what grows well In L.A. - I live where on earth there is some pretty serious winter. I be going to recommend Oak, Maple, some of the larger hardwoods.
But if you open your phone book (yellow pages) and look underneath Nurseries or Greenhouses, you'll probably find some tree or plant nurseries - and generally, what they supply there are variety that will do well here. Call them and ask their opinion. They'd be ecstatic to help.
