I am a landscaper and designer. I agree with the first answer. Bougainvillea is a sub-tropical to tropical plant. It needs hot and sunny location, as capably as full sun. The Bougainvillea does well in sandy and powerfully drained soil. You might want to consider a dwarf variety for a possible indoor plant. I am not sure where you are located within Canada?
