Salvia essential oils do hold toxicity ratings and there are reports of the plant making relations ill - how much does it lug I am not sure. Obviously salvia (sage) was traditionally used dried as an herb, and actual plain blue salvia is not notably hybridized, but there are plenty of hybrids that are also blue and it is a immense plant group - I would not be chewing it or smoking it, since there is no suggestion for either.
