Gas, oil or saline will contaminate the soil. It would be very impossible to put any of those on your lawn.
A tarp or sheet of black plastic laid over the sward will kill it within a week-or-so.
You can also burn it (very carefully) with a propane torch. Soak everything you don't want to burn next to water first and enjoy a helper standing by beside a hose in luggage it gets out of foot. I would also consult your local authorities first to make sure it's endorsed to do so in your nouns...
You can get lime most anywhere. That works pretty hasty, and can be reversible.
Copper sulfate may be available in some chemical shops, pool supplies, or pet stores, and contained by large adequate quantities, it is even faster... but far more long-term, and impossible to neutralize.
To be honest though, both of these products will be cheaper if you get them through a garden store, and will be smaller quantity effective, and more uncertain than using roundup, or something similar.
If you really can't go to the garden store, and you really don't fastidiousness whether or not it grows back, you can attain salt for cheap, and satisfactory of that will eventually kill a patio for... thousands of years.

don't kill it. if it's a wearing clothes lawn, cut it up into 1 foot squares and unearth it. stack them up and you can trade them. some guy gets to buy an instant sward and you're left next to excavated front yard beside some money on the side.
