what type of root system do they have? I have thought about planting a couple at the rear my house about 2-3 foot from the house. I have a concrete slab foundation. Now I know that most woody trees enjoy tough roots that could potentially tear up a concrete slab if they grow into it. Can basjoo banana roots do this or are they softer and would the roots work their track elsewhere? Thanks
Answers: Banana's have fibrous roots or underground stems approaching irises. You shouldn't have too various problems with it. The roots are soft and not woody. I enjoy a Musa basjoo near my sidewalk and hold had no problems beside it upheaving the concrete. I sure you will be fine but, if you are worried about it a short time ago plant it a couple of feet from your foundation. My Musa basjoo is right subsequent to my front lawn sidwalk. Enjoy your banana.I love the Musa basjoo..I live within Zone 5 and it survived the winter down to about 10 below nil!
