Are irises tolerant of direct sunlight? If so, how much direct sun is considered plenty for them to flourish? Just trying to figure out the best place within my yard...
Just trying to figure out the best place within my yard to plant them subsequent year.
Answers: Iris thrive in direct sun, the more the better. They are tolerant of some shade, but the more sun they capture the better they will do. Iris can withstand full sun from dawn to dusk, but to bloom ok contained by a shady area they will call for at least 6 hours of direct sunlight, preferably more.
Bearded iris, those that own fuzzy spots on their petals, like dry foot so plant them in a powerfully drained, sunny spot. So do Dutch iris, which are from small bulbs like daffodils.
Flag, Japanese, Siberian, and Louisianna iris adjectives like full sun but can own wet foot, so they do good surrounded by damp, low spots or even within water.
We own over 100 varieties at our plough, and they are located everywhere and thrive wonderfully. . . Just plant where you want the flowers and nice foliage :)
