It just seem a shame to throw out our used coffee grounds every day, along next to eggshells. Seems like at hand ought to be a use for them?

Yes they are I know egg shells definitly. saw it on Bernstein Bears. that's where on earth i heard it at. coffee grounds i'm sure are suitable too. i use them. Hasn't hurt anything. i even threw my coffee in plants from time to time/.
