Answers: About half a mile away seem to be the rule of thumb for these devastating trees!!!
They cause neighbour disputes, grow excessively elevated, and steal light and nutrients from everything around them - they are a menace! Why not try Western Red Cedar instead - a similar effect but much smaller number problematic.... :-)
Just about every tree have a root system that is give or take a few as wide as its crown, possibly a bit larger. So, as long as the tree doesn't get voluminous enough that it reach the fence, neither will its root system.
