I have a small potted Japanese fern "Acer" the plant seems acceptably healthy but it is developing white tips on its leaves and some look a little shriveled, any design whats wrong?
It could be 'wind burn' or to much sun ( if you are in England at the moment it is probably not the sun ! ) don't worry too much, it will recuperate. its dying
The soil is too alkaline and it can't get the iron into it's leaves as the lime hinder the process. All the leaves will fall off within August.Tap water is highly alkaline also.Either redeploy the compost to ericacious now or in slowly autumn. It will not recover until next spring. As capably as that,to counter lime in water, spray leaves occasionally beside acid foliar feed from March to Sept and it will be fine for 3/4 years than repeat.Acers within dormant phase do not mind having all the soil removed from their roots,so long as don't dry out since you replace with fresh acid soil do you own a tree, a fern or a fern-leafed tree?.
tips browning is usually drying winds or too much hot sun. thereby, lack of humidity around it. protection and better , more consistent wet source will help. moist soil, never soggy never totally dry...consider a small pond or fountain or other water facet nearby to add moisture to the upper air.
