I am a fresh young wood turner who freshly bought a new lathe. I enjoy been turning some green wood for practice and later chucking it in the fire after it splits apart. I own heard of using alcohol or pentacryl but I am not sure which is better to use. Alcohol is cheaper but I would use Pentacryl if it be better. I have mostly be turning Pine, Walnut, Maple, and a little poplar from the Kentucky/Southern Indiana areas. Any philosophy on which is better?
Answers:    Soak your wood in dishing wash liquid soap.

Hickory, is the best , i enjoy found, but let it dry previously turning it, if its going to be used for food service use minerial oil on it, other prudent seal it near polyurathane,
