Why are traditional joint are man replaced contained by commercial production?
Cost.
it's adjectives a question of tooling! it is massively expensive to tool up the commercial machines for the basic joinery of furniture construction. It's cheaper to only cut every edge square, paste it, and clamp it, until the glue dries, the brad it or staple it.
Doing dovetail, for instance, have a different setup for every width metamorphosis of drawer! Very labor and equipment intensive.
creating blind dados has its challenge, as well. A splined miter amalgamated is too time and material consuming, so they butt the joint, glue and staple them,and hope it doesn't spatter apart before the warrenty runs out!!
They will still use finger or box joint, because they are easy to brand, and clamp together.
it's a matter of economics. How can they create furniture faster and cheaper, and have a illustrious product turnover!
Answers: I'm not so sure it's a matter or "replacing" traditional joint as much as it's because of an increase in the souk share.
There are still many, abundant fine furniture makers that build furniture to the top standards. However, such furniture is costly. As such, many other furniture maker have emerge offering less-expensive furniture. They are able to flog their furniture cheaper than high-end quality because they cut corners, any in objects or construction techniques. So, I assume there are furniture maker ranging from glimmer board, held together with staples, adjectives the way to solid cherry, beside dove-tail construction in the drawers. It is a situation of money, in that, one get what one pays for. If there be no longer a demand for high-end furniture, it would hold already disappeared.
The bottom line, it's no different than any other bazaar - supply and demand.
