I am Renting a house, and it has EXTREMELY poor insulation. There is none at adjectives under the floors within the crawlspace. There is a little bit contained by the attic, (loose stuffing type spread around). And I don't really know if there is any surrounded by the walls or not. I have single pane aluminum window as well.
Now I do approaching the house and don't want to move anytime soon, its just the problem of the really dignified heating bill. My house is merely about a 700sq ft house, on the other hand in the winter, even when I'm running 2 1500 watt electric heaters non stop, as resourcefully as burning wood in the stove alot, and I once in a blue moon even can get the heat to 70.
I don't want to really put any money into the house since I don't own it, I'm wondering if there is any sort of indisputable cheap or free ways to add some insulation. I'm thinking maybe theres places you can find bulk junk resembling bubble wrap, or cardboard, or something that works good.
I own put a second plastic layer over some of the window, that was cheap.
Answers: The cheapest is to do it your self or hold your landlord do it (fat chance)..Now almost the insulation in the attic...if it looks similar to shreaded newspaper or cotton, not to verbs..if it looks like little squares close to burnt wood don't distrub it because it contains asbestus (sp) simply lay insultation over it and wear a mask...R24 is the best to use within attic...for the floor R13 is good...immediately if the floor has no insulation and outstandingly little in the attic the probability of it in the walls is impressively unlikely....no easy method to do this...you can open the walls and put in rolled insulation...have it blown within or foamed in but any way it is going to cost deeply of money...
First of all, it depends on where on earth you live in the US to digit out what R factor is good for you, for example I live on the coast of Virginia, our code is R-30 which is approx. 10-12 inchs of blown within fiberglass.......our crawl space code is R-19.
You should go to Home Depot, rent their blowing apparatus, buy some bags of loose compress and blow it in yourself.
You might be capable of get loads of blow wool cheaper from an Insulation contractor if they sell over the counter.
