I have a choice of a simple molding or the one next to the rope on it. which should I choose? I would like a modern/traditional look.

But if you really want crown mold then I don`t know consider dental mold. It's lines are straight and "boxy".
Neither. Shaker-style is a revolt against ornamentation. Shaker pieces are other plain, straight lines. BTW, doors don't have crown molding; solitary the tops of cabinets and walls own crown molding. If you are referring to the trim around the door frame, it's called jacket. For a Shaker door, it should be flat 1x4's. The header piece can be flush with the side pieces (mitered) or suspend over 3/4" on both sides. It can be dressed up with a small ogee molding, but rope would be completely rude to the Shaker style.
