I am going to build a tall, self standing display crust for my living room. I am not sure if I have the proper sand equipment. What sanders will I need? Not a moment ago for the flat panels but for the grooves on the molding and detailed areas?
Answers: If you're using planed boards or veneer plywood, you shouldn't need to do that much sand - so you're probably best off sand by hand next to a sanding block so you can sand near the grain on the hulking flat pieces. Orbital and random orbital sanders may introduce sand marks you can see running counter to the small piece
On the molding, you can again sand by hand and wrap the sandpaper around dowels or blocks of wood beside sharp edges as needed to clean up curves and grooves contained by the molding.
And if that sounds like too much work, you could receive a detail sander with attachments for the molding and a vibrate palm sander for the larger surfaces.
Good luck -

An orbital sander would be best for the long sides and top and shelving units. When it comes to the grooves and molding and what not I would strongly recommend mitt sanding it near a moderately smooth sand paper and later to finish it off return with the highest grit rag you can. Should do the trick.
