We bought a condo and started wetting, steaming, and scrape off adjectives the textured "popcorn" ceiling. In the living room, there is a heat vent which melted it adjectives on during the last 20 years from the previous owner and presently it WON'T come off! We've finally given up trying to collect this, and want to just cover it immediately. What would be nice and decorative, but will look flawless on a wall/ceiling vent (it runs the length of one integral wall in the living room), and will stick to a bumpy surface? Also please remember that it's a heat vent so it has to be something that won't lead to a fire.
Please something that is simple, inexpensive, and I won't own to hire someone to do the work for me.
I can't recommend anything to cover it, but have you tried getting an electric and sand it smooth then if you want somewhat texture, you could re-texture it yourself. My brother re-did his house and it came out great!
Popcorn ceiling that are very weak can contain asbestos. If you can remove the popcorn be sure to use gloves and a mask.
If you can't remove the popcorn at tiniest paint the ceiling with a paint sprayer to help out keep the popcorn from flaking sour.
Answers: 1/4 inch sheet rock over it.I think you've tried simple and inexpensive.
