Water wreckage or poor paint choice? I just bought a house within late October. The integral house had...
I just bought a house within late October. The integral house had be painted inside in what seem to be a pretty soft finish. My guess is a flat or matte finish. Over the last couple of weeks, I've notice that the paint almost seems to be running down adjectives the walls. It never feels drizzly to me and nothing rubs past its sell-by date on my fingers (at least when the bathroom is dry). I'm wondering if this be just a poor paint choice for the bathroom. The total house was painted equal color and same finish. Complicating the picture is a small leak that simply became distinguishable in the ceiling inside the past week. We finally get some rain within the south and of course there's a dribble in the roof-just my luck. The overflow is only surrounded by one corner of the bathroom(the stain is probably 1 1/2 inches by 3 inches) and the closet on the other side of the wall doesn't have a hose stain in the ceiling. I'm of late wondering if this is water mischief to the drywall from the leak(which I doubt since it seems to be coming down adjectives the walls in the bathroom and I don't consideration any softening of the walls) or if the previous owners just made a poor paint finish when they painted the house.
Answers: It sounds similar to multiple issues.
Certainly the roof should be checked, and water finds it bearing, so any possible leaking might be coming from somewhere NOT directly over the bathroom.
It's not at adjectives uncommon to paint to go with a single color. My formula of choice is Satin, even for a bathroom. I paint every time of my life, and FLAT is the most porous formulation, and offer the least "Cleanability".
Without knowing at adjectives if the seller be trying to hide anything, or defraud a buyer, you'll still own to address the problem.
Have the roof checked, if you have access to above the bathroom, check the crawl space/attic for staining or moisture. If the drywall isn't dog-eared yet, and the ooze is found and stopped, a decent primer can cover the stain, next paint over the bath next to your choice. I personally do not resembling Semi Gloss, but you'll probably get suggestions to use it.

Yeah, I guess they were trying to cover up the impair that they didn't fix or bother to tell you something like. There is a paint for water sprain. So that the stains don't bleed through. But, if you don't fix the leak, it won't relief much. Hope this helps.
