My girlfriend was just about to take a tub and set a bottle of shampoo on a soap holder on the shower wall, and the holder came crashing down and took 12 of the wall tiles near it. Turns out that the mortar/caulk/whatever that holds some of the tiles in place have been cracked and surrounded by some cases missing leaving a apparent gap contained by between some tiles, allowing some water to acquire through. upon closer inspection I saw that the drywall behind where on earth the tiles fell is damp and have a small crack running down it where the tiles fell rotten. So now we own a fan on it trying to dry it but it isn't working..
I really don't want to hold to tear down the walls within there and replace them end in I remember that can become a nightmare if insulation gets showery too.. but at the same time I dont want my house to become a vigour hazard form mildew/rot.. if theres any process to fix this myself or have a handyman do it that would be great, or am I merely screwed?
Answers: hi there i would tend to remove adjectives tiles and remove plasterboard and replace with a shower panel which is a plyboard laminated both sides ith a formica base product similar to kitchen worktops this is available in adjectives good plumbers merchants b and q1 etc.. if you really want to tile again i would acquire a tile backer board for tiling onto these are a cemintitious board specifically for tiling lying on, if you are tiling i would make ure you use a top power adhesive and a seperate top competence grout like bal or similar i would lso invest surrounded by a grout sealer after you have finished tiling
hope this help regards

to fix this correctly...you should remove the tiles and the wall board, budge by yourself some 1/2" hardi-backer and Hardi screws and mount it to the studs every 8" and use thinset to retile the shower. if you do it this channel you have no more issues. dont forget to silicone around the remnant.
