i want to make a table into a chess board and i don't know what to use to cover it. since it's going to be a chess board it plainly isn't going to get too much use so i be wondering if a clear polyurethane would be good if i poured a glutinous layer onto it. would that be too soft to hold eyeglasses or drinks if need be?
Answers: You don't want to pour a gummy coat of poly. However, there is stuff out within that can be poured, assuming the table has a raise lip around the edge. I forget the describe of the stuff, but it just pours out, harden nicely, and surrounded by a home setting, will look good indefinitely. Ask at any home center or hulking hardware store.
