further to my other question ref extension to garden shed, if was to run swa 2.5mm to power socket should i but 3 or 4 core? i believe it is not dutiful practice to use the outer sheath as an earth so i guess i buy 3core & use

That should be fine but using the armourings as an mud conductor is fine as long as the SWA is terminated correctly using the correct SWA gland. I would agree 100% with jayktee9 but would add> where you abandon the SWA at the house fit a double pole switch fuse & a RCD ( if the house hasn't already got one )

It's ok to use the armour as your earth, but I tend to use a core and earth down the armour. Belt and braces if you will.
