I recently get a birch color Tv Table (entertainment center) from Ikea. The rest of the furniture in my house is see and cheryyish in color.

Now Can I stain it ?..or is the process too boring that I should just vacate it..I would be greatful to anyone who can reply and also give me some info on how to stain it and where on earth to find them also..This would be my first project.
Answers:    Assuming that the unit is genuine wood, and not particle board beside a plastic laminate veneer, you can stain it.
First, determine if there is a sealer or clear top coat on the wood. If the wood have a shiny look or feel to it, it does, and you will involve to sand it off for the wood to occupy the new stain. This would the the dull part of the position. If you can borrow a random orbital sander, it will budge much faster, if not, procure a pack of 100 grit sandpaper and a hand-sanding block and sand going back and forth next to the grain of the wood. After you own removed the topcoat, or if there isn't one, progress back and sand next to some 120 or 150 grit sand paper for a nice smooth finish and to start up the pores of the wood. Make sure to get within all the corners, or your stain will be blotchy.
Next, catch your stain, some gloves and a bunch of old rag. I'd stay away from the stain/sealer products for your first project. Get regular stain and a seperate topcoat for later, it is easier to toy with this way. Follow the directions on the stain and brush or wipe on the stain to the wood, and after wipe off the excess next to the rags after a few minutes. Do a check area where on earth it won't be seen to cause sure the stain will turn out the way you want. By using plain stain, you can dance back and apply a second coat if the first application is not night enough. After the stain is completely dry, apply a clear sealer to protect adjectives your hard work. Go near a waterbased sealer to make the cleanup easier.
Good Luck.
If you get it from IKEA it is probably a "laminate" not real wood. If this is the baggage, you will not be able to stain it.
Most wood finished from IKEA are not the existing thing.
