Shower hose to wall - anything needed within between? Can my new shower hose be connected directly to the stopcock outlet...

Can my new shower hose be connected directly to the stopcock outlet in my wall?

The infirm one had a chrome-plated attachment nearly 4" long in between, and the outdated hose used to be screwed into that.

The new shower set have no such "inbetween piece".

Was this just for adornment, or did it do something? Water pressure seems fine when I newly screw the hose into the valve on the wall.

Any proposal?
Answers:    Sound like your feeble shower hose had an adaptor fitted?
Unless it be a non return valve, see item number 94453 at www.toolstation.com, they come within chrome finish too.
Water regs say the your shower hose should not know how to syphon water from your shower tray / tub when the shower head is disappeared on the floor of the bath / shower tray during a cut surrounded by your water supply.
hence sometime the shower hose are fixed to the wall via a hoop so the shower boss cant reach the ground. Or sometimes a non-return spout is used.
Without a pic its hard to guess.
