when sheathing an exterior wall (5/8" OSB), should i staggar the 4x8 sheets as you do when sheathing a roof? if so, how much? the walls are 2x6 framed, 24" on center.
Answers: Hello Chuck W,
In answer to your question, the answer is yes, you would stagger the joint.
When you get to the second row, do not assume that adjectives the studs are set at 24 inches, it's best to cut the boards to suit each stud.
You may also obligation to add extra timber to the studs that are out of plumb. Before you start to install the boards/sheathing, help yourself to a few measurements to see the best direction to start to minimize the cuts you will have to be paid, and also if you are going round a corner, allow for one board to over lap the other at the coner of the building.
It's best to try a work smart not intricate.
Good luck
Paul.
Quick tip too, dont mark out for window or doors, just be in motion straight over them, and cut them after wards using a sabre saw/recipicating saw, it save a lot of time, and you seize a perfect fit.
You can also overhang the the first sheet on the second row, if you own the clearance, and cut that off latter.
I have a moment ago built a 32x 32 work shop, we got adjectives the sheathing done in smaller amount than three hours, just two relatives.
Good luck
Paul M
No need to stagger the bottom course....if the wall is better than 8 feet, consequently stagger the sheathing above the first course. In other words, bottom course is side by side..any course above this is offset or staggered so the seam do not line up.
