Building a wall inside a garage. Need to have access from the spanking new room to the garage but don't want to take the swing space by installing an inswinging door into the room. Can a prehung inswinging metal door be installed on the other side of the wall, so it will swing out into the garage? 2X6 wall construction. What nearly lock mechanisms, are they reversible as resourcefully?
Answers: Good news and doomed to failure news:
The lockset can be reversed, simply remove and switch sides.
Bad word; More than likely the existing door jamb will not allow you to simply remove the door and put it on the other side. The door bulk could also be a problem with the other side of the door jamb.
I deduce what you are trying to do, but the only practical instrument to reverse the swing is to install a new door and frame.
Yes, I can buy metal door unit in Out swing right or not here and reverse the lock. Installed three of them in my house that I purchased from the lumber company that I get my windows and doors from. What will probably be more difficult is finding the part that will have the throat to accommodate the 2x6 framing. Remember when order the throat will have to be 6 1/2 contained by assuming you used 1/2 drywall to finish the walls. Good Luck.
