giving my garage ,which is blockwork, a stoco finish this week and have be told that on the first coat after taking off the elevated spots go over it next to a hard brush to to hold the shine off the plaster, afterwards scratch it . is this basic, been advise by other people merely to do this when dashing? thanks.
Answers:    With adjectives due respect I suspect you aren't in "The states"

Rendering isn't a usual residence used here.

You state "Stucco"??? Or am I confused as you use the word STOCO?

Without knowing at all the substance of the bits and pieces you're using; I've never encountered a SHEEN??? Most habitually Stucco relates not only to the substance, but a Texture. Plastering; which I'm not in favor of; might occasionally refer to smooth surface finish. "High spots" are element of the essence and purpose of Stucco.

In the end however; what exactly is the FINISH you aspiration to achieve? A RAW look?

I'd be curious to grasp your input.

not really sure if i know what you are talking almost ..if you mean a Tyrolean type finish .. adjectives render should be in two coat work ..a cut into coat and top coat ..if not the shape and lines of the blocks will show through ..the render should be plastering sand and cement ..it must be mixed by shipment not volume ..ie ..a shovel of sand weighs more than a shovel of cement ...4 to 1 will be fine ..allow at least possible 12 hours between coats
