I have one of those pressboard furniture pieces (entertainment center) that I bought from Kmart over 15 years ago. It structrually is contained by great shape, and I dont really see the need to part of a set with it, however, the "wood-like" finish is a bit shadowy and I was wondering if here is a way to re-do such a piece.

Answers:    If it has the daily photograph finish glued to the Fourth Estate board, then the solitary option is to paint it.

If you own the type of press board that has a limited veneer of plywood glued to it, you can bleach and re-stain it near any wood stain.

Just use a spray bottle to mist bleach on the veneer. Then sand to smooth the veneer and then stain.

Re-finishing is really not an risk, as it has a veneer coating which is glue to the particle board.
