I am a visitor to the U.S. and I am intrigued by the smaller mirror on the side wall, next-door to the large mirror above the bathroom clear up basin contained by almost all U.S. homes. What use does it serve? It splits our picture as we look into it from where we stand. If we are supposed to look into it from the tub tub, it is so far away that we really can't get anything. Except possibly admire our bare body, but then the mirror might be clouded from smoke from hot water and so pretty useless even for this momentary self-admiration. Instead if we have a small, extendable mirror we can use it sometimes for a closer look at the frontage while shaving or makeup. Any opinions?

It's usually only just for storage purposes. You get extra space contained by the cabinets aft the mirror, but the glass is split into 2 or 3 different section because using just 1 piece of chalice (mirror) would make it too big and easier to break.
