l saw it on hgtv's divine design #709 ,unfortunately near were no details evident . just a bench fitted into a niche and after sliding out ,making a nice bed ,sitting low to the ground,being superlative sitting hight in the "bench mode" beside the mattress l think doubled up .
Answers: I am in recent times guessing but I think it could be done truthfully easy using hinge and plywood. Hinge one board to the wall, then hinge another board to it and consequently hinge another to that board..when you pull it out the rear of the bench becomes partially of the bed,the seat the husband and the outside board would stand vertically to support the bed. Make it the size of a futon and you could find a nice futon mattress for it. You could also build another shorter bench adjacent to it and enjoy a small table to create a breakfast nook when the bed is not in use. It could be sheltered on the bottom with cabinet doors for storing the pillows and blankets for the bed.
