you know the little drains we all own in our bathroom and laundry floors?
powerfully i looked down the one i have surrounded by my bathroom and it looks like it have sludge and water within there... is it supposed to?
Most places close to that have a u bend to confine anything that might be dropped while using the shower or sink,or hand pudding basin. If you re not able to grasp to the botton of the u bend, to relieve the pipe, you will need a plumber.

depending on how hoary your home is, some have a U shaped pipe surrounded by it. That keeps the hose level from rising beyond the U. If near is moisture then it is probably from infirm pipes and ground water seepage.

Not to mention the time of year. If nearby is an excessive amount of rain, snow...etc.

If you are worried in the region of it, call a plumber.
Answers:    Actually the 'u-bend' is call a p-trap. It's a water trademark that prevents sewer gas (which does not smell very good) from entering your house. All fixtures that directly connect to the sewer enjoy to have a p-trap.
