I own a solid wood furniture store and am considering buying some product which contains lunmber-core. i researched it some online and there isn't much information out on it. I would resembling to find out if it has duplicate qualities as regular ply-wood veneer, if it's considered solid wood, if you can fix dents and scratch like solid wood, etc. Any info is greatly appreciated!
Answers: Used to build dining room tables surrounded by High Point NC. Lumber core tables are still a veneer table with the core anyone made up of small pieces of wood glued together - ususally popular(cheap). Another popular passageway of making tables is to lumber band( put lumber adjectives around outside of chipcore then veneer on top) The third method is to veneer higher than MDF. The best method is to lumber band - give you the most stable table and the edges are real wood and give you the appearance of a solid table. My experience with solid lumber cores are that they are a bit unstable - wood is a moving substance and contained by the winter dries out and in the summer swells and the veneer tend to delaminate. You can't fix scratches and dents resembling real wood. Not too frequent of the major furniture manufacture use solid cores on big tables. The indisputable cheap Chinese imports are MDF and they paint the edges to look similar to wood( cheap labor)
Yes it is solid wood. A great deal of furniture is solid core. This is different from plywood within that the core is a single layer of wood to some extent than several layers of veneer. Please be honest just about it with your customers though. Some solid core is made beside cheaper wood for the core, say Poplar next to Oak veneer. Still technically "solid wood" but misleading.
If the core is the same as the veneer it is recurrently sold as " solid Oak " for example. Which is true. Note the difference in vocabulary. Solid wood does not mean adjectives of the wood is the same category.
Solid core still has veneer on the outside but the edges can be shaped and stained as if it be a single piece.Yes dents and scratches can be repaired approaching single planks if the core is the same type of wood as the veneer. If it is not repairs can be more noticeable.
