I want to build a grill, and colled rolled round bar is too expensive, and i cant find expanded metal in the size i inevitability, and that i can afford.
Has anyone ever cooked on rebar?
So my question is, Is it safe to cook on rebar,
What do I involve to do to make it safe to cook on?
any and adjectives help is greatly appreciated!
as long as it's not coated with anything it's probably fine. it's not brittle. should be no problem as long as it's not the painted type of rebar that they use in highway construction in a minute
shoot, it's no different that cooking on metal grate in considerable commercial grilles, you just have to maintain it oiled to prevent rust. but, you have some weld to do to make an actual grate with plumb rods. why not just use the the rebar as supports for a regular metal grate, or grille plate? shouldn't be a problem, its the same steel as expanded metal.expanded metal can be cut to size. see a weld shop and ask if they will cut it to size for you
Answers: It's safe, but the ridges on the rebar receive turning the food difficult. You might have to grind off the lumps
Those #^%^!%$ Forest Service barbeques regularly use rebar and I hate htem!
go for it!
