We would like to skin an ugly nouns return with a picture. To provide proper clearance for the heavens return we would like to mount two 2x4's at the top and bottom of the atmosphere return nailed through the drywall. The picture would afterwards mount flat on the 2x4s providing either 1 1/2 " or 3 1/2" (depending which side of the the stud we use) of side access for the upper air to pass through. Is this ok? PS - The nouns return is very, severely, very gruesome.
Answers:    I hear you on this one too - soooo ugly and surrounded by my house they are right where they shouldn't be sticking out resembling a sore thumb, I tried hiding them too, but get prepared to dust off your picture every other hours of daylight and your heating system won't run successfully either. I finally only just painted them the room color and I'm learning to of late ignore them.
Sounds a pious idea - you merely need to kind sure that the free area of the access is equivalent to that of the grille to allow the hanger-on (assuming there is one?) to draw nouns through.
