What brand would be best? And what should I look for?
Answers:    It should be cordless. It would be real nice if it be two-speed. You drill on high speed, and you drive screw on low speed (much more control). Two batteries instead of one would be nice also. That style when one runs down during a large career, you can just pop surrounded by the other one. They sell drills beside two batteries if you look. The superior the voltage (12, 14.4, 18, 24), the better and the more expensive. 12 volt works alright. I think adjectives the brands are pretty good. If you want to squirrel away some money, you can buy a reconditioned one from Skil. Here is the page with the 14.4 volt cordless screwdrivers. Some of them own stud finders, etc... The two-speed drill is $54. The one speed drill is $35. The website has tons of tools. Some are unusual and not reconditioned. The good article about Skil is that it doesn't cost greatly.

Home Depot always have a good deal. They go a reconditioned Ryobi 18 volt 2-speed drill and flashlight combo for $75 (free shipping). It's online only, and they are usually out-of-stock. I guess you hold to back decree it. Ryobi is a good signature. Makita is also a good cross. I've known a few carpenters who would with the sole purpose use Makita.
