It has alot of scratch and dings, and places where the finish is worn past its sell-by date. What products do I need? Is in that some sort of kit that I can acquire at Home Depot or something? (I've never done this before) thanks
What they said. Plus that wood varnish stuff ( i forgot the name) that Billy Mays endorses (The annoying Oxy verbs guy). Oxy Clean works great so i dont c why the other stuff wouldn't

sand paper of different grits
wood planer
stain
wood filler
polyurethane

Sand adjectives the original stain bad w/ a high grit, this will get hold of rid of most of the dents. fill whats not here w/ filler. use a planer if its REALLY messed up. After the filler sets sand again w/ high grit. Then sand again w/ lower grit to smoth it. Then stain. Then lots many coats of polyurethane.
Answers:    You inevitability a stripper to take past its sell-by date the old finish, sandpaper to smooth out those dings and parts where on earth the finish is more stubborn, and some sort of patch or caulking to fill contained by the bigger dings. A scraper would be good for the patching cog.
