Bad idea. Lots of moving parts.

You might be able to find someone who would annodize it. That would stick, and is cracked enough that it shouldn't interefere with the workings too much.

Depending on how precision it is, even that could interfere next to the workings, and at the very least, you'd inevitability to strip it right back out of the barrel, because you can't only annodize part of something.
