I am replacing a light switch. The feeble switch has a black telecommunication at one pole and a white at the other and a red wire mortal pushed into a hole in the fund.

The new switch solitary has two poles. When I hook up the black and the red, the pallid works, but the nearby outlet does not. I guess the white flex from the outlet will need to be hooked to any the black or the red.

Here is a schematic. Inside the switch box, there are three conduits coming surrounded by. There is a cap connecting the white from #1, the white from #2 and the black from #3. The black from #1 and #2 is also cap, and part of this rope is connected to the switch. The red is connected to the switch. In this configuration, the light switch works. The outlet does not. I call for to connect #3W to something, and I'm thinking it is with #2B and #1B.

There is no other fluffy switch that controls this light.

Answers:    White should be a impartial, the black & red should be hot wires from either leg (there are typically 2 - 120 VAC legs contained by a panel that are off by 180กใ, so between them is 240 VAC).

It's esteemed to observe the color-coding, otherwise ancestors like you come along subsequently on & can't tell what's what. There is no electrics situation in a residential dwelling where on earth a black & white would tie together. There are times when it's quick & jammy to use a white wire within a switch leg, but it should either be phase-taped (covered near the right color tape) or painted with a tricks marker.

It sounds as though whoever be wiring past you may not have color-coded the wires correctly. Your best course may be to capture an electrician in here to puzzle it out. It should not be a big job.
You right to be heard the new switch simply has two poles - are you sure there's not another screw surrounded by the casing for the loam wire - it won't necessarily be a "pole".

The white lead will NEVER be hooked up to either the live or indistinct wires. In the case of an un-earthed section, it can be snipped off flush near the sheath.
