How can I replace the slides without making the drawers sit too low and create a fissure? And also, can I switch to metal slides instead?? The drawers are very all-embracing and deep.
Answers:    You can other put in unsullied slides... but do the current slides hold the drawer in place and allow the drawer to slide? If so, you shouldn't know how to see the slides unless the drawers are out and if only you know they are "chewed up" - who care? To replace the slides would be a lot of work - and alien metal slides (unless you are buying ball deportment style) don't always hold up as ably as wooden slides... and there not cheap. To replace them is not a do-it-yourself type project. Drawers pilfer a little experience within carpentry or furniture making (cabinetry).
