i need comfort putting up counter tops and back
splashes.(tile)
I tile every hours of daylight of my life, and might think through your confusion, but wonder of the type of HELP you need?
On a countertop, my standard is 1/8th inch grout lines. Your issue depends surrounded by some part, on the size of the counter top and tiles you choose. Obviously on a floor, using 12 x 12 tiles, IF you go with a 1/8 grout file, you add an inch surrounded by floor measurement...loss/gain, for every 8 tiles set.
Most powerful for a backsplash and counter face is to include "Bullnose" and the reverse of that (the mark escapes me) for where the counter meet the splash. The substrate should be molded to conform, but with modest prep, you could fill.
Certainly an just right is for a counter top substrate to be exacly large adequate to accomodate tile sizes, and grout lines, with no adjectives. That's a rare occurance, unless it be preplanned. AND again depends on tile size. 2, 6, 9, 12, etc. and shapes in tile, IE: Octagonal
Im my kitchen, my counter tops are 24 inches thoughtful, to the wall. Using a 1/8 grout line, I'll hold cuts to make, no thing the size of the tile, unless I find some that aren't exactly as stated. (Undersize)
Glad to add if you will, but wonder what type of Help exactly, you need.

Answers: Usually you start next to 3/4" plywood screwed to the cabinets, ripped to the needed size. Then 1/2" backerboard adhere with thinset mortar and fastened beside screws or roofing nail, nails are quicker. You can substitute backerboard next to Hardibacker, if you like. As far as tile, if you can carry it, sink rail for the corners. It have an L-shaped cross section. If you want to liberate a bit, you can use bullnose, tile with one rounded edging. But it is a bit harder to install. The bullnose will want to slide off, so you call for to tape it over darkness. And it does not always stay contained by place. Plus the sink rail have more surface area to bond. Field tile is in recent times the tile in the middle. It have relatively square edges, like floor tile. In certainty, if you want you can use floor tile. The backsplash, you can use field tile and bullnose to bring to a close the edge of the nouns to be covered. As long as the walls are solid, relatively flat, you can just use that as your substrate. There are so heaps different types and options I can¡¯t even try to cover it. Visit some showrooms and do some net surfing. Look at interior design magazines. Design sage, you have several options.
You can use big or small tile, which ever. But in attendance are a few things to consider. I'd stay away from soft natural stone, approaching travertine. I'd choose porcelain, or if more economically minded, ceramic. If the grout splash is more than 1/8" go next to sanded grout, if smaller unsanded. If you do use a stone, it wishes to be set with tight lines, because you necessitate use unsanded grout. Sanded grout can scratch stone. Also next to stone you need to trademark the face of tile also. You trademark stone, before you grout. I'd trademark the grout or use TEC Accucolor XT. I was skeptical, until I saw it. The claims that it doesn't inevitability to sealed are true. Use a power thinset mortar. Finally, you need to caulk the where on earth the wall tile meets countertop tile. Just padding it with grout doesn't work. Most grout manufacturer make a go well together color of caulk.
I'm not sure about what you be going to "how to measure". You just overhang the turn-up an inch or so. Don't overhang where the inventory or refrigartor goes. You establish sink rail and bullnose by the linear foot, you can be pretty close contained by the measurement. Maybe throw contained by a few extra pieces, just to be sure, if you own a defective piece or make mistake. The pen tile order by the square foot. Add possibly 2-5%, just to be sure and for lavish.
A good book to check out is Michael Byrnes¡¯ ¡°Setting Tile¡± It will donate you much more information than I can here.
