Answers:    The smell is coming from a non-water soluble residue (the tar from the ciggys).

Take it outside and wipe it down carefully next to mineral spirits changing rags frequently. This shouldn't hurt the finish, but it will dissolve the stinky ciggy crud.

Adding - afterwards polish it by your favorite method.
