Get a water sprayer of some sort.
Wet the ceiling and use a large scraper.
Be sure to use a cloak, don't want to breath in any small particle into your lungs and don't forget about protective eyeware as ably.

as far as i know, you can attach a wide scraper attachment to a long pole, and scrabble in long strokes. enjoy not done this myself, just saw it on diy shows.
