Answers:    Yes, Egg carton are good and the cheapest means of access, though you need ALOT of them! Good insulation such a fibreglass can backing too, and then the egg carton on top.

If you want to do it really professionally, i suggest you speak to a local contractor/builder about the process :)

SHouldnt be too expensive :)

Hope this help

PS: I know for a fact that egg carton work, as I play in a brass belt, and the room we rehearse in is soundproofed beside egg cartons. If it can hold on to the noise of a brass fastening in , after it surely will work for you!!

PPS: Yes! That is the one im talking nearly, the fibreglass looking material, Sorry i thought it in truth was fibreglass!
Depending on if you are surrounded by NEW CONSTRUCTION or just covering it up. contained by NEW you can add a special nouns deadner insulation between the walls and floors, and as for just a rushed cover up... egg cartons work somewhat... the cardboard style... its the nouns waves that don't gain access to as well into the walls. also their are approaching a wall rug that you can hang up as economically, made of a dense foam and rubber like textile! check with the local hearth rug store or like a home depot ! Good Luck and hold on to on jamming!
