Ok, I bought a grabit screw extractor because I had a stripped screw. It worked perfectly. Only problem be the stripped screw is stuck inside the exctractor bit. How can I get it out of the extractor?
Please help. I simply bought the bits. I don't want to toss it.
bring a pair of plyers and hold the screw with the plyers and the drill surrounded by your other hand, and apply some heavy elbow grease and verbs out the screw. Since you turned the extractor counter-clockwise to remove the screw, hold the screw and turn the extractor clockwise.
Is the extractor metal? If not, try a strong magnet. If it is, try gluing a toothpick or something else disposable to the end of the screw, and see if that works. If adjectives else fails, call the company and complain, I did that when my wood burner/etcher tip broke sour the first time it heated up, and they sent me not only a new tackle, but the upgraded deluxe version that was twice the price of the first one. Good luck! Set the extractor so it turns clockwise on the screw (opposite of how it come out) while holding each side with pliers.
You may also try to attain an old piece of wood and try to screw the screw into that and then only just pull away.
Sure hope that helps!
Answers: The Grabit extractors bore into the screw. So, your extractor is actually stuck in the screw, not the other mode around with the screw stuck in the extractor - yes??
Do you own a vise? or some vice grips? or a friend with strong hands and a couple of pliers? You need to grab that screw, any in the vice or with the vice grips or hold someone hold it and then apply a wrench to the Grabit and turn it clock-wise, which will back the Grabit out.
A vice would be best, if you own one. With the screw in the vice and the Grabit sticking up out of it, apply some heat to the screw (to the screw and not the Grabit) - beside a soldering iron, silvered with solder, or with a Bernzamatic torch or even an oxy-acetylene if you own it. Squirt some Liquid Wrench or WD-40 in there and even make a contribution the Grabit a sharp tap with a sledge hammer in hopes of dislodging it from it's dug-in position. Then, after all that, turn the Grabit Clock-wise and it should put a bet on out.
grip the screw in vise grips or pliers and twist it out beside another pair ,,,remember righty loosey -lefty tighty ...yes backwards.tom
